Our Place in Morristown Mission

Adopted by the Board of Trustees, May 20, 2008

Our Place exists to provide a drop-in center and related services to the homeless and those who seek a respite from life on the street. We welcome those in need regardless of their life situation.

1. We believe that everyone is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect at all times.
2. We believe that everyone is accountable for their actions and their choices.
3. We believe that no one can live as an island and that we are dependent upon one another for encouragement, support, counsel and help.
4. We believe that all, even the homeless and poor, are entitled to
   - a safe place to get off the streets:
   - a legal mailing address;
   - a place to receive phone calls and messages;
   - a place to use the telephone calls to make arrangements for employment, treatment or services;
   - referrals to and information about appropriate public and private agencies;
   - emergency clothing, as well as socks, t-shirts and winter coats;
   - and a place to store personal belongings.
5. We believe that there are no economic, ethnic or racial barriers to mental illness, chemical addiction, or being battered. One of our parents, siblings, a child or best friend could be the next one to be in need of Our Place. The saying “There but by the grace of God go I,” reminds us that it could even be ourselves and that homelessness, unemployment, addictiveness are not signs of immorality or personal failure.
